Mental Math Race · Effective 9 October 2026
In short: Mental Math Race does not ask for a name, email, phone number, location or photo, and it has no chat. To match children for a race and to keep scores, the app uses an anonymous ID created by Google Firebase, plus a generated nickname, an animal picture, an age group and the answers and times from each race. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking. A grown-up can delete everything from the app's Settings at any time.
Who we are
Mental Math Race is made by HomiLabs ("we", "us"). Contact: homilabs.smc@gmail.com.
Who the app is for
The app is a maths game for children aged 8 to 12. We designed it so that a child can play without giving us any personal information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, write to us and we will delete it.
What we store, and why
| Data | Why | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous ID (created by Firebase Authentication when the app first goes online). It is a random string, not linked to a name, email or device number. | To match players, tell one player's progress from another's, and let a player delete their own records. | Google Firebase |
| Generated nickname (for example "Brave Falcon 42"), chosen animal picture, age group (8-9, 10-11 or 12) | To match you with a child in the same age group and show who you are racing. Nicknames are generated by the app: nobody types a name. | On the device, and in Firebase while you are in the matching queue or in a race |
| Race records: the question seed, whether each answer was right, and how long each answer took | To run the race, decide the winner, and keep a pool of recorded races that can be replayed as a "Practice Rival" when nobody is online. Also used to spot impossible scores. | Google Firebase |
| Your last 60 results, and your sound setting | To show "My races" and remember your choices. | Only on the device |
The app has no ads and uses no advertising ID, no analytics, no crash-reporting service and no location, camera, microphone or contacts permission. The only permission it uses is internet access.
What other players can see
During a live race your opponent sees your generated nickname, your animal picture and how many questions you have answered. When the race ends they see your score and total time. Players cannot send each other messages or anything else. A finished race may be replayed to other players in your age group as a "Practice Rival": they see an animal picture and the pattern of right and wrong answers and timings, labelled "Practice Rival".
How long we keep it
- Matching queue entries: removed within seconds of a match, when you cancel, or when they go stale.
- Live race records: removed by the app a day after the race, the next time the app is opened.
- Race records used for Practice Rivals: removed by the app after 180 days, the next time the app is opened, and no longer used as rivals after 180 days.
- If the app is uninstalled without using "Delete my data", the anonymous ID is lost with it, so the remaining records can no longer be connected to you, your child or your device. They are not personal information.
Who processes the data
Data is stored with Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore), in a data centre in Mumbai, India. Google acts as our service provider. Like any online service, Google's servers receive the IP address of a device when it connects; we do not use or see IP addresses. We do not sell data, share it with advertisers or use it for profiling. We use the anonymous ID and race records only to run the game and keep it fair.
Deleting your data
Delete my data
- Open the app and tap the gear icon (Settings).
- Tap Delete my data and answer the question for grown-ups.
- Confirm. This deletes your online race records, your anonymous ID and everything stored on the device.
You can also clear only the list on the device from My races → Clear. If you have already uninstalled the app, see "How long we keep it" above. You can write to homilabs.smc@gmail.com with any privacy question.
Your rights
Because we hold only an anonymous ID, we cannot look up records by a person's name or email. The app's Delete my data button is the way to see them removed. If privacy law where you live gives you further rights, write to us and we will help as far as we technically can.
Security
All communication with Firebase is encrypted in transit. Access to the records is limited by security rules so that a player can only read the matches they are in and change only their own records.
Changes to this policy
If we change what the app collects, we will update this page and the date above before the new version is released.
